For the 19th year, the Cleveland State University Dance Program, with support from the Ohio Arts Council, is sponsoring Saturday in the Studio, a unique …opportunity for people of varied ages to participate in creative dance experiences. This program offers Creative Dance Classes for Cleveland School children on Saturday afternoons from March 19 through April 16, 2011 in the Cleveland State University Dance Studio. Creative Dance is an introduction to dance movement vocabulary, allowing freedom for exploration and individuality. While experiencing the joy of movement that Creative Dance instills, participants will also have the opportunity to explore a wide range of dance forms celebrating the diversity of dance.
Participants will work closely with educators and musicians in creative movement explorations and the creation of dance episodes. The last class will include a sharing of experiences with classmates, friends and family. Children and adult sponsors will experience diverse forms of cultural dance through a variety of rhythms, tempos, qualities and purposes.
This special opportunity is offered free to first through fifth graders in the Cleveland School system, with the requirement that the parent or adult sponsor agrees to participate in the movement classes. The session is meets from 1:00-1:45 PM on five consecutive Saturdays, beginning Saturday, March 19 and ending Saturday, April 16, 2011. All classes are held in The Cleveland State University Dance Studio, located on the block of Euclid Avenue and East 24th Street, in the basement of the Physical Education Building.
