Summer classes filling up at MassMu!

Most of our Kid’s and Teen’s Art Classes start this week! We still have a few open spaces. Miss the first session? No problem, we can still get your child in, and prorate tuition! Classes in Painting, Drawing and Clay run for 6 weeks. Call Educator Jill Malusky at (330) 833-4061 or email jmalusky@massillonmuseum.org. Classes in sculpture, and day camps, begin in July and August! It’s not too early to register!

Kids Beginning & Continuing Drawing
Summer Session, Tuesday June 14, 21, 28, July 5, 12, 19, 10am-12pm (6 weeks)
Art teacher Stephen Tornero will give an introduction to drawing with a variety of materials, from crayons to charcoal. Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing such as shading, color and texture using pencil, pen and ink, chalk, and charcoal to capture the world around us on paper.
Cost: members/$60, non-members/$70

Teen Beginning & Continuing Drawing
Summer Session, Tuesday June 14, 21, 28, July 5, 12, 19, 1-3pm (6 weeks)

Artist Brittany Steigert will introduce children (ages 7-11) to the basics of working with clay using hand building techniques. Kids will learn about wedging, slipping and scoring, the kiln firing process and glazing, making a variety of projects.

NEW Kids Super Sculpture
Summer Session, Thursday July 7, 14, 21, 28, 10am-12pm (4 weeks)
Young artist Erin Meyer (a 2008 Jackson HS grad and Maryland Institute College of Art student) will introduce kids (ages 7-11) to the fundamentals of sculpture using a wide range of materials, including found and recycled objects. Kids will use their imagination to invent new species of animals and insects, often using materials that can be found in the home. Their creativity will come alive, just like their sculptural creations!

NEW Teen Super Sculpture
Summer Session, Thursday July 7, 14, 21, 28, 1-3pm (4 weeks)
Young artist Erin Meyer (a 2008 Jackson HS grad and Maryland Institute College of Art student) will introduce teens (ages 12-16) to the fundamentals of sculpture using a wide range of materials, including found and recycled objects. Teens will use their imagination to design projects inspire by figures and architecture, often using materials that can be found in the home.

NEW Teen Art Studio Sampler
Summer Session, August 2, 3, 4, 5, 1-3pm (4 afternoons)
Learn a little bit of everything with a talented, practicing young artist. Erin Meyer (a 2008 Jackson HS grad and Maryland Institute College of Art student) will introduce teens (ages 12-16) to a variety of mediums including printmaking, painting and sculpture. Learn the three mediums individually, then combine your new skills to produce a final masterpiece.

NEW Little Monsters Camp
Summer Session, August 2, 3, 4, 5, 10am-12pm (4 mornings)
Send your little monsters (ages 7-11) to this art and history Monster Camp. Learn about funny, creepy, and misunderstood monsters throughout time and around the world, with elements from Greek myths, African and Native American culture, and a little Cryptozoology! Activities include storytelling, mask and costume making, sculpting, collages, games and more.

NEW Big Monsters Camp
Summer Session, August 9, 10, 11, 12, 10am-12pm (4 mornings)
Send your teenage monsters (ages 12-16) to this art and history Monster Camp. Learn about funny, creepy, and misunderstood monsters throughout time and around the world, with elements from Greek myths, African and Native American culture, and a little Cryptozoology! Activities include reading myths and legends, mask and costume making, sculpting, collages, and special effect make up.
