Education Director Chris Seibert presents the 13th year of Women’s Voices with Survival Skills, a spoken word performance featuring works by Andrea S., Jackie C., Jenny F., Kym S., Monica A., Patty L., Satedra B., Sherry D., Teresa B., Terriona J., and Melissa B.
This inspiring evening will feature original drama, story and poetry created and presented by the Cleveland Public Theater Women’s Voices Project, a program for women recovering from domestic violence, addictions and other adversities. Women’s Voices is a 13 – year collaboration between Cleveland Public Theatre and the Elyria YWCA Women’s Campus Project. The Program equips Women’s Campus Project residents with the tools for creative expression and supports their transition to independent living. Following performances at Cleveland Public Theatre and The Elyria YWCA, the women will tour their work to the area universities, recovery centers and prisons.
Each performance will be followed by a talk-back with the women and reception
“The writing component of the Women’s Voices Project encourages self-reflection and exploration of past events or problematic relationships to promote healing and a positive emotional outlet for the participants,” says Chris Seibert, director of education at CPT. “The performance is where the women and the audience get to see how far they have come. It is truly amazing to share their process as they create art from their experiences and change their perception of self in the process.”
The Women’s Voices Project is made possible by generous support from Eva L. & Joseph M. Bruening Foundation, Elyria YWCA, KeyBank and The Nord Family Foundation. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated.
