The Akron Art Museum and Tuesday Musical Association’s FUZE! concerts showcase classically trained performers who are dramatically changing the world of classical music by testing new musical frontiers and fusing standard repertoire with works by contemporary composers.
On Friday, April 6, 2012, in the final concert of the season, Pablo Ziegler and Maya Beiser heat up the stage in the museum’s intimate Charles and Jane Lehner Auditorium.
Maya Beiser, described by the The New Yorker as a “cello goddess” mesmerized audiences during her performance as part of the inaugural 2009 FUZE! series. The New York based, Israeli born cellist returns to Akron with renowned Argentine, Latin Grammy-winning pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler, hailed by Stereo Review as “the outstanding representative of the nuevo tango in his generation.” The two will present a collaborative, sonic exploration of the nature of “canyengue” – provocative, raw, earthy and sensual – the true soul of Buenos Aires tango.
The concert begins promptly at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6 pm and will be followed by a special cocktail reception in the museum’s Beatrice Knapp McDowell Grand Lobby, where audience members will have the opportunity to meet with the musicians. The museum’s exhibition galleries will remain open until 9 pm that evening so FUZE! concert goers can visit before or after the performance.
Only 160 seats make this an unrivaled chamber experience. Tickets are $30 general public, $25 AAM and TMA members, $15 students with valid identification and include concert as well as exhibition gallery admission. Tickets can be purchased with a credit card by visiting http://www.AkronArtMuseum.org, by calling 330.376.9186 x268 or visiting the museum’s Visitor Services Desk. All ticket prices are subject to additional ticket handling fees.
