Experience artist Melissa Daubert invites visitors to and residents of Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood to take center stage in her latest interactive installation, “Everybody Is Somebody.” This one-day-only exhibit will premiere from 1:00-7:00pm as part of the third annual Discover Gordon Square Arts District Day to be held Saturday, June 9th, 2012. During the day-long free-to-the-public festival, visitors are invited to experience Daubert’s piece in the former Romanian Orthodox Church on the Cleveland Public Theatre campus (6400 block of Detroit Ave).
When visitors enter the church, they will be led into Daubert’s installation by an usher. Ideally, visitors will be able to experience the piece as individuals. Says the artist, “I want each visitor to feel and recognize their moment of celebration, because no matter who we are, each of us is part of the greater whole. ‘Everybody Is Somebody’ honors that and honors Colleen Porter for the inspiration to express that ideal through art.” Daubert dedicates this piece to Porter, Playhouse Square’s Vice President of Community Engagement and Education and a life-long arts advocate, who passed away this spring. Porter and Daubert collaborated on work for the International Children’s Festival in 2010 and 2011.
